A team member from The Bleeding Wolf pub in Scholar Green has become the first Level 3 Graduate of Robinsons' Hospitality Apprenticeship Plus Programme.

The Stockport brewer partnered with Charnwood Training Group in late 2013 to launch a series of apprenticeships covering bar staff, kitchen staff, hospitality management and housekeeping.

Megan Whitehead, Trainee Assistant Manager of the Bleeding Wolf pub, completed the Level 3 Hospitality Supervision and Leadership programme over a 15 month period. The training involved a combination of on-the-job learning with regular mentoring sessions and evaluation from a qualified Charnwood Assessor. It also included additional qualifications: APLH (licensing exam) Wine Service and Customer Service.

"I've really enjoyed completing my Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Apprenticeship with Charnwood" said Megan. "The programme covered a wide and varied range of topics and helped me identify both my strengths and weaknesses. The course has certainly helped expand my knowledge and improve my personal position and career prospects within the business and hospitality trade."

The apprenticeships, which are open to any pub, bar, hotel and restaurant in the North West, are funded by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Employer Ownership of Skills pilot and developed in collaboration with North West pub and restaurant companies.

Mark Gibson, Licensee of the Bleeding Wolf, said: "I have been delighted to have Charnwood as our in-house training provider; we have a number of team members currently on courses with them.  The service that they have provided to both myself and the candidates has been second to none. And the training has helped us to strengthen our team in confidence, skills and knowledge."

David Harrison, Director of Retail Operations at Robinsons Brewery, said: "The feedback we've received since launching our apprenticeship plus scheme has been outstanding. The goal has always been to help encourage and develop talented workers who wish to develop their career within the hospitality industry. We're proud to be leading the way at Robinsons and we know that Megan is the first of many graduates to come."
